Tribune Co’s (TRCBQ) Los Angeles Times To Cut 80 Jobs

Share:

Tribune Co's (OTC: TRCBQ) Los Angeles Times said it would close its printing operations in Orange County, California, resulting in about 80 layoffs, as part of cost-cutting measures.

The paper cited its publisher Eddy Hartenstein as saying in a memo that the measures would generate "substantial savings" by consolidating printing operations at one facility. Tribune Co's other cost-cutting measures include eliminating the stand-alone business section on Mondays and reducing the width of the newspaper to 44 inches from 48 inches. The LA Times layoffs follow hundreds of job cuts and buyouts in 2009 at U.S. newspapers and magazines due to the economic slowdown.
