Dick Grasso Could Run For Mayor Of New York City – If Ray Kelly Doesn't

  • Richard A. “Dick” Grasso, former chairman and CEO of the New York Stock Exchange, appeared on Wall Street Week on Sunday.
  • The expert criticized the NYSE’s sale of data feeds to high-frequency traders, and discussed public speaking, 9/11, Ken Langone, his plans for the future and the possibility of running for Mayor of New York City.
  • His candidacy pretty much depends on what Ray Kelly does, he suggested.
  • When asked about what’s next, Grasso responded that he has “flirted with the idea” of becoming Mayor of New York City in 2013. “My hope was that Ray Kelly was going to run. I think he would have been a fabulous Mayor,” Grasso assured.

    A Look Back, And Forward

Grasso then looked back at Michael Rubens Bloomberg’s performance as the Mayor of New York City. “When you think about the 12 years that Mike Bloomberg was mayor – and he did a fabulous job – a lot of that would have not been possible without a great Police Commissioner and a great police force,” he affirmed. “And that is what Ray Kelly brought to the city of New York.”

He went on, “I would love to see Ray run (…) If Ray decides that he is not going to do that, and there are people who would support me and like to see me run, I will give it strong consideration.”

Finally, when asked about Charlie Gasparino’s intention of being Grasso’s campaign manager, the NYSE’s former CEO said, “I promised Charlie that (…) if I were to become mayor, he would become Sanitation Commissioner.”
