You Can Bid On eBay For A Lunch With Warren Buffett
Want to break bread with billionaire investor Warren Buffett? If you have at least a quarter of a million dollars laying around, you stand a chance.
EBay Inc (NASDAQ: EBAY) is hosting an auction for the public to bid for the privilege of meeting Buffett.
Proceeds from the auction will be given to Glide, a charity in San Francisco that provides food, health care and other services to homeless, poor and struggling individuals.
According to Reuters, Buffett has raised over $20 million in 16 separate auctions for the charity.
An anonymous individual paid a record $3.46 million to meet with Buffett in 2012. The largest confirmed winner was China's Zhu Ye, an executive at Dalian Zeus Entertainment Co — a China-based gaming company.
Zhu Ye and Buffett dined at Manhattan's Smith & Wollensky steakhouse.
Since 2008, the winning bid was at least $1 million. This year's bidding process will end Friday night, and as of Thursday morning the top bid was a mere $230,000.
"Mr. Buffett has been just one of the most important people in our work," Rev. Cecil Williams, 86, Glide's co-founder and a pastor at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, told Reuters. "If people didn't respond to places like Glide, we would be in serious trouble in urban America."
