General Motors Ends 2014 With One More Recall
General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) issued a recall at the end of December for 92,000 SUVs and trucks in the U.S. and abroad for faulty ignitions.
According to The Detroit News, GM’s "nightmare began in February, when it recalled 2.6 million older cars for a bad ignition switch that could cause vehicles to stall and air bags to fail in a crash. The defect has been blamed for 42 deaths and 58 injuries and spawned a number of investigations, including a congressional inquiry."
The ignition problem can cause a vehicle to lose engine, steering, and breaking power by switching to "accessory mode". In such a mode, if the vehicle is in an accident the airbags may not deploy, posing additional risks to occupants.
General Motors recently traded at $34.48, down 1.23 percent.
