YouTube + NVIDIA = 3D Love

Share:

If 3D televisions, game consoles and handhelds aren't enough to satisfy your three-dimensional needs, YouTube has something for you: more 3D content.

The Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) video enterprise has teamed with Mozilla Firefox and NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) to bring HTML5-based stereoscopic 3D video to YouTube. The only catch is that you will need NVIDIA's 3D Vision-enabled hardware to enjoy the content.

Mashable notes that while 3D videos aren't new to YouTube, the service will now transcode these videos “into the open WebM format, meaning that Firefox 4 users with NVIDIA's 3D Vision hardware and glasses will be able to watch them in 3D.”

To get started, users will need to visit the href="http://www.youtube.com/select_3d_mode">3D section of YouTube and, under the “3D TV or Monitor” heading, select “HTML5 Stereo View (including NVIDIA 3D Vision).” But that's not all – according to Mashable, you will also need NVIDIA's 3D Vision kit, which costs $149.

For another glimpse of 3D, visit NVIDIA's 3D Vision Live website.
