F Halts Full-Size Transit Classic Commercial Vehicle Production In China
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Ford Motor (NYSE: F) has stopped the production of the full-size Transit Classic commercial vehicles made in China with its joint venture partner Jiangling Motors. Ford took the decision after it discovered that the gas pedals used in the vehicles were being provided by the same supplier involved in the recall at Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM).
The Ford’s spokesman Said Deep said that the Indiana-based supplier, CTS Corp, began to provide gas-pedal assemblies for the Transit Classic in China in December. He elaborated that from then till date about 1,600 vehicles were made and the questionable pedal was only used in its diesel models. F has not clarified whether it will be recalling that batch of vehicles to replace the pedal. The company said that it had not received any reports in China from drivers facing uncontrolled acceleration problems.
F’s shares slipped by 1.04% to $11.42.
