OFFICIAL: LeBron James Joins the Miami Heat
On ESPN this evening, LeBron James has made it official that he will join the Miami Heat. There were rumors all day that LeBron James would join his friends Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami.
The very popular sports personality, Mike Stone from 97.1FM The Ticket, said this about Lebron James joining the Miami Heat, "the king turned into a combo of the tin man and cowardly lion...no heart and no courage....."
Shares of Madison Square Garden (NYSE: MSG) have been quite volatile and rose earlier in the week as speculation was rampant that LeBron would join the New York Knicks. However, today as the LeBron rumor of James joining the Miami Heat picked up, Madison Square Garden shares fell.
The Cleveland Cavaliers' and Dan Gilbert did everything possible to make LeBron James happy. Gilbert's Cavs built a new state-of-the-art practice facility, brought in all the top talent that was available and the Cavs made sure to exceed all of LeBron's demands. Additionally, the Cavs paid an excessive amount for Shaquille O'Neal for a one-year contract in an effort to stop Dwight Howard, but the Cavs were unable to beat the Celtics in this year's playoffs.
LeBron will likely say that he did his best to win in Cleveland, but it just didn't work out.
Will LeBron James leave the same legacy as the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird? It's tough to say now, but those players were able to win with the teams they begun their careers on unlike LeBron James.
