In Goldman Sach's weekly entertainment newsletter, box office sales and the recent Halo: Reach release was discussed.

Halo: Reach, released on September 14, generated over $200
mn in first day sales in the US and Europe. In comparison, Halo 3 grossed $170 mn in its first day in the US in 2007.

Last weekend's US box office was 11% lower yoy. Resident Evil: Afterlife generated 84% of its gross from 3D tickets, considerably better than the recent trend of 50-60%. Unlike recent 3D movies, Afterlife was actually filmed in stereoscopic 3D, the same technology used in Avatar.

Movies highlighted for this weekend's release are The Town starring Ben Affleck, Easy A starring Emma Stone, and Devil, which is another horror thriller from M. Night Shyamalan. All of which are predicted to gross teen millions.
