Easy Street
By Adrienne Toghraie, Trader's Success Coach
A question I was asked at the end of a webinar was, “Does it ever get easy?” Naturally, he was referring to trading. And the answer is a qualified, “YES.” For easy to happen you:
*Must believe in your strategy
*Must believe in yourself
*Overcome self-imposed limitations (self-sabotage)
*Be consistent over a period of time
*Experience consistent profits
*Have enough money, so you can withstand the draw-downs psychologically
*Enjoy a balanced life
It is hard before it gets easy
As with most skills, becoming a trader is challenging before it becomes easy. However, the challenges are not insurmountable for those who are willing to take the right steps. For many traders, however, not taking the right action in the beginning creates even more challenges to overcome. They want the prize of easy before the work that it takes to get there.
Rushing to easy to make it easy and falling off a cliff
Andy was a no nonsense guy who needed instant gratification from his efforts. He ran a software company where he was very successful. When the business could almost run by itself, Andy looked for another endeavor to fill his life with a challenge. He chose to become a commodities trader.
Andy read one book on the markets and then purchased a pricey strategy from a trader who was able to show exceptional results. He spent a few days with this well seasoned trader watching him trade. From this experience, Andy thought he had an open door to Fort Knox (that is to say, when it actually had money) with his new strategy.
Andy returned from his mentoring session thinking that it was going to be easy. He learned very quickly that it was not. What was hard for him to understand was that with his intelligence, proven success in business, and winning strategy why he was not able to follow the rules that were laid out for him in detail.
Three years later Andy finally realized that he could not just rely on another trader to do all the work. He has since read countless books on the subject of trading and trading psychology and has a lot more respect for the trading profession. Andy sent me an E-mail after listening to me on a webinar and became a client. He is now among those who find trading easy.
What are some of the other benefits you receive when trading becomes easy:
*You look forward to each day of trading
*You are not concerned about changes in the market or changes in the other parts of your life because you have learned to know what to do to handle change
*People around you think and talk about you as if you are a professional trader
*Colleagues respect your knowledge and seek out your advice
*You and your spouse are not concerned about how your bills are going to be paid
*You have a regular routine that feels comfortable
*You can now become a mentor for others
*You are in a position to be philanthropic to those less fortunate
Conclusion
You too can be one of the traders who is on easy street when you put in the time and energy and make the right choices. Now it is your decision whether or not you will make this a longer or shorter process by overcoming the challenges and self-sabotage that will be in your path.
