Tesla Inc's (NASDAQ: TSLA) assertion that the Cybertruck can outpace a Porsche 911 even while towing one has been scrutinized in a new YouTube video by an engineer known for his analytical approach to automotive performance.

Contrary to the statement made at Tesla's high-profile unveiling event, the engineer explains through detailed analysis that the Cybertruck's race against the Porsche was, in fact, only an eighth-mile run, not the quarter-mile standard typically used in drag racing.

The video, cited by the engineer on his channel "Engineering Explained," delves into the nitty-gritty of the race's footage and examines the specific segment where the Cybertruck, towing a Porsche, completes the drag strip course.

The analysis, which involved counting video frames and corroborating distances at Sacramento Raceway Park via Google Maps, verified that the race concluded at the eighth-mile mark, rather than at the quarter-mile point. Additionally, the video assesses the separate performance times of each vehicle, relying on third-party test results for precision. It concludes that even the least powerful model of the current-generation Porsche 911 would surpass a Cybertruck towing a load over a standard quarter-mile distance.

While acknowledging the impressive feat of the Cybertruck towing a luxury sports car at high speed, the engineer suggests that such marketing stunts can be misleading. He argues that genuine engineering feats should be presented transparently, without the need for overstating or ambiguity, allowing their true value and innovation to be appreciated on their own merits.
