Siemens Comments On Executive's Death In NY Helicoper Accident

Senior Siemens AG (OTC:SIEGY) executive and CEO of Siemens Spain, Agustín Escobar, died alongside his family in a helicopter crash in New York City last Thursday. 

The Details: The sightseeing flight, operated by New York Helicopter Tours, crashed 15 minutes after takeoff from Wall Street Heliport, killing Escobar, his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal (a Siemens Energy executive), their three children (ages 4, 8, and 10) and the pilot, 36-year-old Seankese “Sam” Johnson.

Witnesses reported a rotor malfunction mid-flight, causing the Bell 206 helicopter to spiral into the Hudson River near Pier 40. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating, with critical components like the main rotor still missing from the wreckage, according to the New York Times. 

No official cause of the crash has been determined. 

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called the crash an "unimaginable tragedy," while Siemens expressed deep condolences. 

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic helicopter crash in which Agustin Escobar and his family lost their lives,”a Siemens spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to all their loved ones.”

The incident has drawn significant public attention due to Escobar's corporate prominence.  Escobar was Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility and had led Siemens Spain since 2022. He had over 25 years of international experience with the company.
