Cybertruck Can Indeed Serve As A Boat! Musk Says Tesla Will Offer Mod Package To Allow Vehicle To Wade On Water

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday that the company will introduce a modification package for its Cybertruck, enabling it to travel on water for at least 100 meters.

What Happened: Musk elaborated on the water-travel capability, stating, “Mostly just need to upgrade cabin door seals.”

This announcement follows Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy’s revelation that the Cybertruck can almost float and merely requires additional buoyancy to stay afloat.

“If you're creative you could figure out how to put an outboard motor plugged into your outlet there, turn it on from your screen, and go boating,” Moravy said in a video with television host and vehicle enthusiast Jay Leno.

The significance of this lies in Musk’s long-standing vision, dating back to April 2020, of the Cybertruck being waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, capable of crossing even mildly turbulent seas, a sentiment he reiterated in September 2022.

As part of Musk’s ambitious vision, the Cybertruck includes a ‘wade’ mode, elevating the vehicle’s height and pressurizing the battery when navigating through water. This feature allows the Cybertruck to drive through water levels that do not exceed the top of the bumper while successfully preventing any of the water from entering the battery pack.
