OnePlus 12 Said To Be Nearly Twice As Bright As The Brightest Phone Available Today

OnePlus’ next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, could be nearly twice as bright as the brightest phone currently available, Google’s Pixel 8 Pro.

What HappenedLi Jie, the president of OnePlus, confirmed on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that the OnePlus 12 will come equipped with a BOE X1 OLED display that can reach a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. This is a significant leap from the previous record, which was set by Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Pixel 8 Pro at 2,400 nits.

Jie further stated that despite this high brightness level, the OnePlus 12’s display will be more energy-efficient, consuming less power at the same brightness compared to most standard smartphones. The official unveiling of the OnePlus 12 is scheduled for December 5.

This revelation comes as several tech companies, including Google and Samsung, are making strides in OLED panel brightness. Samsung has even launched its Vision Booster feature, which aims to enhance brightness and vibrancy in specific use cases.

The OnePlus 12 will be unveiled in China first and released globally a few weeks later. The device will be powered by Qualcomm Inc.’s (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and will feature up to 24GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and four rear camera lenses, including a 3x periscope camera.

Why it Matters: This development follows a recent tease by OnePlus, revealing new color options and design changes for the OnePlus 12.

As one of the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the OnePlus 12 looks set to combine groundbreaking screen brightness with powerful performance and innovative design.
