Former RNC Chair Calls For Trump's Imprisonment For Attacks On Judges: 'Put His A** In Jail. That's How You End It'

What Happened: In a recent social media post, MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin relayed a statement from Michael Steele. According to the former RNC Chair, Donald Trump should face jail time for his continuous attacks on-court officials and judges.

Ayman shared a video clip from Saturday’s episode of his eponymous MSNBC show on X, formerly Twitter. Steele said in response to a question relating to the lifting of a gag order on Trump in the New York civil fraud case.

“It is enormously dangerous, I am shocked that we have allowed this to get this far. I’m just going to use my best analysis that I can give you at this point on this situation with Trump, and the attacks on the judges. Put his a** in jail. That’s how you end it. That’s how it stops.”

This tweet came in response to Trump’s numerous public outbursts against the judges involved in his New York civil fraud trials. He berated them on several occasions, branding them as “crazy” and “unhinged”.

Why It Matters: Trump’s criticism of court officials has been a recurring theme in his fraud trials. In October, he was fined $10,000 for violating a gag order imposed by the court, as reported in a Benzinga article.

Again in November, Trump took to social media to lash out at Judge Arthur Engoron, accusing him of political bias and doing the “dirty work for the Democrat Party”, as covered in another Benzinga article.

After violating the gag order and incurring an additional $15,000 fine, the order was temporarily lifted by appellate judge David Friedman. As noted in this Benzinga report, Trump’s argument was that the order contravened constitutional and court rules.
