Tesla's Newest V4 Superchargers Are Popping Up In The US

The Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) Supercharger is a 480-volt DC fast-charging station built by the company specifically for its electric vehicles. These stations have been key in enabling long-distance travel for Tesla owners and encouraging the adoption of electric cars.

The automaker is now taking another step to improve its charging infrastructure.

What Happened: According to Electrek, Tesla started the deployment of its new V4 Superchargers in the U.S. These next-generation charging stations are essential for the upcoming Cybertruck and for accommodating other electric vehicles.

Despite hearing about these new charging stations for over a year and seeing a handful come online in Europe and Asia, construction had been seemingly stagnant in the U.S.

But at least three new V4 Supercharger stations are currently under deployment in the U.S. One such station is being built in Wilsonville, Oregon. In Sparks, Nevada, Tesla is retrofitting an existing V3 Supercharger station to incorporate the new V4 stalls, complete with new payment screens and the "Magic Dock" feature.

Why It Matters: The introduction of the V4 Supercharger is a significant development for Tesla’s charging network expansion strategy.

Notably, the V4 Superchargers come with a cable that is three feet longer than its predecessors. This might appear to be a minor change, but it is critical for the charging experience of larger vehicles such as the Cybertruck, along with other company's EVs that have their charge port in a different position than Tesla.
