GOP Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Emerges As 'Second Amendment Absolutist' — Supports Gun Rights For Convicted Felons
Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has articulated his belief that convicted felons should be permitted to carry guns.
According to Politico, Ramaswamy shared his views on a podcast hosted by former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, which is set to air on Thursday. During the discussion, Ramaswamy, who identifies himself as a “Second Amendment absolutist,” was asked to elaborate on his stance.
The candidate responded affirmatively when questioned if everyone, including past felons, should have the right to own and carry weapons. He added that he considers “concealed carry” and “constitutional carry” to be important.
Ramaswamy stated that background checks are an “absolutely legitimate part” of the process, and he believes that “law-abiding” gun ownership could deter many violent criminals from roaming the streets with firearms.
The GOP candidate also touched upon the topic of high crime rates in cities, the inadequacy of mental health resources, and the need for more support for police officers during the podcast.
