Joe Biden Rejects Certain Conditions Sought By 9/11 Defendants In Plea Negotiations
President Joe Biden has declined certain conditions proposed by lawyers representing defendants of the 9/11 attacks in possible plea negotiations, the Associated Press reported.
President Biden ruled out a presidential guarantee that the five defendants would be spared solitary confinement and receive trauma care from their CIA custody torture.
This decision leaves it up to the military prosecutors and defense lawyers to agree on a plea bargain. The proposed terms involve the five Guantanamo detainees pleading guilty and serving life sentences in exchange for avoiding the death penalty.
Lawyers from both sides have been attempting to resolve the case through negotiations and for Biden to oppose or support some of the conditions sought by the defense.

President Biden concurred with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin‘s advice to reject the proposed negotiation terms.
