Former Microsoft Executive Reveals Four Employee Mistakes To Avoid

Chris Williams, ex-VP of Human Resources at Microsoft, shares four common employee missteps, Business Insider reports.

Williams emphasizes that company loyalty is a myth. He advises against expecting or offering loyalty, suggesting that employees should prioritize their own interests over misplaced allegiance to a company.

He states, “Don’t expect the company to reward your seniority in your paycheck.”

Williams mentions that instead of asking for a raise as a favor, employees should discuss a clear value exchange. He suggests employees should quantify their contributions and approach the conversation from a position of strength.

Threatening to leave or take legal action without genuine intent can backfire. Williams warns that once threats are made, the mutual respect in the employer-employee relationship is likely compromised.

Lastly, preparation is key when seeking assistance. Williams advises documenting issues and understanding the situation thoroughly before approaching superiors or HR for help.
