What Exactly Went Wrong With Samsung's Failed Note 7? We Will Find Out Very Soon

Samsung released its Galaxy Note 7 on August 19, 2016, to much fanfare. However, the success was certainly short lived.

The supposed Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone killer device started making headlines within one week of its launch and for all the wrong reasons. Reports of the phone catching on fire swept across the internet, and by September 2, Samsung announced a recall.

As noted by CNN Money, this is where Samsung's woes really begun. The company attributed the defective phones to one of its two battery manufacturers, so there wasn't a need for a global mass recall.

Then replacement phones started catching on fire along with phones that contained batteries from the other manufacturer was previously deemed to be safe.

The story is all too familiar, and Samsung cut the plug permanently on October 11.

So, what exactly happened? For now, we don't know — but we will very soon.

Upcoming Press Conference

Samsung will live stream a press conference on Samsung.com this Sunday. Independent experts who carried out their own investigations into the Note 7 fiasco will be presenting their findings as well.

Samsung will also detail what new measures it will be taking to avoid another embarrassing blunder and the timing couldn't be more convenient ahead of the much anticipated launch of the Galaxy S8 device.
