Here's How Costco Customers Can Still Use Their American Express Card
Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ: COST) switched its exclusive credit card partnership to Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) from American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) earlier in the summer.
Costco's members who were used to paying for their purchases with an American Express card faced few options: They could use any Visa branded credit card or pay for the order in cash.
There is, however, a hack that will allow Costco members to pay for a purchase with their Amex card thanks to Google Payments.
Costco and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) formed a relationship that offers customers the ability to purchase Costco products online and have them delivered directly to the customer.
And guess what? Consumers can fund their Google Payments account with any American Express card.
Consumers may choose to use their American Express over a Visa card out of habit or perhaps the American Express offers a superior cash reward offer.
Granted, using this method is a workaround shopping at Costco with an Amex card. On the other hand, fresh produce such as meat won't be available for delivery, so this option may not be best for Costco's most die-hard loyalists.
For others, it most certainly could prove to be good enough.
