Say Goodbye To BlackBerry Classic

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ: BBRY) announced on Tuesday it has decided to update its smart phone lineup with "state of the art devices."

BlackBerry's Chief Operating Officer and General Manager for Devices Ralph Pini subtly hinted in a blog posted that the once iconic and classic look to BlackBerry devices has now "long surpassed the average lifespan for a smartphone in today's market."

In other words, BlackBerry will no longer manufacture its BlackBerry Classic device.

"We are ready for this change so we can give our customers something better — entrenched in our legacy in security and pedigree in making the most productive smartphones," Pini added.

Pini stated that his job has focused on three main elements: 1) expanding choices for customers, 2) leveraging the company's "unmatched experience" in both capabilities and security and 3) building on the BlackBerry "pedigree."

Pini argued that for many years the BlackBerry Classic has been an "incredible workhouse" for users and exceeded all expectations.

"I'm excited for what's to come and looking forward to giving you a new and better experience," the executive concluded.

Shares of BlackBerry were trading lower by 2.22 percent late Tuesday morning at $6.61 and have lost around 28 percent since the start of 2016.
