Netflix Renews 'Fuller House,' Greenlights Steven Soderbergh Western 'Godless'
It's been a busy week for Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), as investors are continuing to see the streamer's multi-billion development pipeline in play.
The company announced Wednesday it had renewed its new comedy "Fuller House" for a second season slated for 2017. "Fuller House's" renewal is the furthest thing from a shock, despite the massively negative reviews the show received from critics. Then again, a show like "Fuller House" is essentially immune from negativity given both the nostalgia factor and the fact ratings don't come into play on a network like Netflix.
The studio also announced it had teamed with Oscar-winning director/producer Steven Soderbergh for new western series, "Godless." No other details are available for the limited run series but given Soderbergh's pedigree the deal, announced Monday, was met with initial excitement. Soderbergh currently just wrapped work on the second season of his acclaimed Cinemax drama "The Knick."
The news about both "Fuller House" and "Godless" comes just a few days before the return of network flagship drama "House of Cards," which debuts its fourth season on March 4.
