Intercept Pharmaceuticals Soars 30%; Reuters Reported Company Exploring A Potential Sale

Shares of Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: ICPT) soared higher by more than 30 percent after Reuters reported the company is exploring a potential sale of itself.

Reuters, citing "people familiar with the matter," stated that Intercept has received interest from other companies.

This isn't the first time that Intercept's name has been mentioned as a possible takeover target. Shares of Intercept surged back on December 15, 2015, when the company was said to be in talks with Shire PLC (ADR) (NASDAQ: SHPG) over a potential sale of itself.

Reuters did note, however, that there was no certainty on whether Intercept would decide to proceed with any transaction.
