Apple Reportedly Attended Auto Event Pitching Its Technology
  • Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s ambitions within the electronic car market is still officially unknown.
  • 9To5Mac reported that Sixty Eight Research, a "sketchy firm" that may be a front for Apple's car business attended an industry wide conference in Germany.
  • The publication noted that Apple may have added 1,200 employees to the development team for its car project.

It is no secret that Apple has been acquiring some of the brightest minds in various disciplines to potentially work on a self-driving car.

For example, Apple recently hired Nvidia's director of machine learning and deep-learning expert Jonathan Cohen, who also happened to have been working on automotive computer vision solutions, including DRIVE PX technology. News of the hiring prompted Sherri Scribner of Deutsche Bank to comment that this merely "further validates" speculation that Apple is "actively working on something in the automotive area."

If investors and Apple enthusiasts needed further convincing that the Cupertino-based company is working on a car, 9To5Mac reported that a "sketchy firm" named Sixty Eight Research recently attended the 17th Global Car Body Benchmarking Conference in Germany.

Sixty Eight Research is widely believed to be a shell company that Apple is using to mask its ultra-secretive electric vehicle project, code-named Project Titan.

9To5Mac noted that the list of participants at the conference included "almost every major automotive company" along with key suppliers like Alcoa Inc (NYSE: AA).

The evidence to support a thesis that Apple is working on an electric car continue piling up, including a report that the company recently added another 1,200 employees to its Project Titan development team.
