Alibaba Announces Launch Of Korea Pavilion On Tmall

Chinese eCommerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE: BABA) on Monday announced the launch of the Korea Pavilion on its Tmall.com platform.

According to a company press release, the Korea Pavilion is the first official online country pavilion that will be dedicated toward providing consumers in China with a shopping platform to purchase genuine Korean products along with travel and cultural information.

The announcement follows high level discussions between Alibaba's Jack Ma and various Korean government officials that began in 2014.

The expansion of Tmall.com will partner with Korea Argo-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation and Korea International Trade Association. The platform offers merchants a dedicated online platform with access to the Chinese market.

"The Korea Pavilion is Alibaba Group's first official country pavilion and we will continue to work with governments of other countries to launch similar pavilions in the future in order to satisfy the needs of our Chinese consumers," said Jack Ma at the opening ceremony of the Korea Pavilion on Monday in Seoul, South Korea.

"Korean made products have always been popular in China and we are excited to bring these products onto Tmall.com."

Alibaba also noted in its press release that the company remains dedicated towards helping Korean small and medium sized enterprises and also hopes to bridge the Chinese-Korean culture to foster improved relations between Chinese shoppers and Korean merchants.

As the demand for Korean products within China continues to grow, Alibaba's logistics affiliate, Cainiao, is looking to expand its partnerships with Korean companies to bring the best cross-border logistics solutions to the Chinese consumer.
