Weekly Highlights: Apple's iWatch Team Grows, Comcast Buys Time Warner Cable And More

How many people will ultimately work on Apple's long-awaited iWatch?

A new rumor claims that the team -- once thought to consist of 100 individuals -- has doubled to 200 people.

That's intriguing, but will they be able to create an innovative product for Apple? Or were they merely hired to ensure that the device (innovative or not) is fully polished before it ships?

Comcast is already the biggest cable provider in America. And it wants to get bigger.

The pay-TV company announced that it would acquire Time Warner Cable for a ridiculous large amount of money.

If the merger is successful, Comcast will gain control of several new markets. It will also eliminate a key competitor in areas where it currently battles Time Warner for subscribers.

Former FCC Commissioner Michael Copps has teamed up with a grassroots advocacy group, Common Cause, to share his thoughts on the proposed merger.

"I think this deal is so over-the-top that it ought to be dead on arrival at the FCC and with the Department of Justice," Copps told Benzinga.

"To allow a company to wield that much power and have that kind of reach, especially in a market where consumer costs keep rising… Cable bills keep going up, Internet is anything but cheap, and there's such low competition."

Copps was also the only FCC Commissioner to vote against the Comcast merger with NBCUniversal.

Consumers who use Verizon's FiOS pay-TV service have been experiencing a number of problems with Netflix.

The problems started the day after the new net neutrality rules were released, which allows companies to legally discriminate between websites.

In other words, Verizon has the right to reduce Netflix stream quality.

Verizon denied the allegation, but it should be noted that the company has been struggling to popularize its own streaming video service, Redbox Instant.

An undetermined number of Bitcoin exchanges were hit by a DDoS attack this week.

The average consumer would be lucky to get $20 for trading an old cell phone -- especially one that predates the smartphone revolution.

Nonetheless, a new study claims that there consumers are sitting on nearly $50 billion worth of cellular devices that could be traded in.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak isn't against the idea of an iPhone that runs Android.

He believes that Apple could tackle Android as a secondary market. He thinks the company would compete "very well" in that space.
