Australian Current-Account Deficit Widens
According the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia's current-account deficit widened by 2.6 billion Australian dollars ($2.8 billion) to A$8.4 billion in seasonally-adjusted terms in the three months to December 31.
Australian exports of goods and services rose by A$336 million, while imports climbed by A$2.9 billion. However, economists were expecting a current-account deficit of A$8.0 billion.
