Google Takes Maps Indoors and They Are AWESOME!

Share:

It may not be able to tell you where to hide a body in a sexy Siri voice, but Google's latest innovation is still pretty freaking cool.

Have you ever been in an airport and wondered where you were, or where you should go next? Maybe you wanted to find a particular store in a mall, or wanted to find a specific department in a retail store. In the olden days, you'd have to look for a sign, check a directory, or ask for help. That's about to change.

Starting today, Android users can simply tap their phones and get a simple but beautiful view of their indoor location:

I don't have a powerful enough phone to run this feature, but if I did, I am sure I would use it all the time. Just imagine the possibilities: Google could map places like Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan, or the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. By doing so, Google would be able to show us every booth location during the North American International Auto Show, or tell us where we can play the next Call of Duty during the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Google could take it even further and map the indoor and outdoor areas of amusement parks like Disney World (NYSE: DIS). Google might have to get the amusement park owner's permission first, but I imagine something could be worked out.
