LOL of the Day: MySpace Asks Users to Test-Drive New Site
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything new about it.
At the end of another hype-filled day with Facebook comes an unexpected announcement from a website that's presumed to be dead: MySpace.
The company sent out an e-mail this afternoon with the subject, “Psst, test out a new Myspace homepage!”
You know, as if it's a secret or something.
Being the music lover that I am (and, despite my jokes, a staunch supporter of MySpace's free streaming options), I decided to log in and check out the new site. I looked closely, but after 30 seconds of staring at the screen, I gave up. It looks very similar to the old site – too similar for all the “new homepage” hyperbole.
There is one interesting feature to note, however:
“In this new design you can see and listen to what your friends are listening to, set up or get quick access to your playlists, and enjoy the LARGEST library of FREE music on the web!”—MySpace E-mail
I don't have the time to test this out at the moment*, but isn't it interesting that MySpace has decided to add this feature on the very same day that Facebook announced its music-sharing options?
*Actually, I don't have any friends on MySpace to test this feature with – they're all on Facebook and Twitter.
