Facebook and Twitter on the Rise?
Unique visitors soared in July. Surprised?
Despite the previous studies indicating that young people were getting bored with social networking, TechCrunch reports that Facebook and Twitter did very well last month.
In July, Facebook received 162 million unique visitors – a 1.2 million increase over June's numbers, and a five million increase over May.
Twitter rose to 32.8 million unique visitors in July – up from 30.6 million in June and 27 million in May.
What is the reason for the increase? comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR), the source of the data, did not provide any clues. But there's a good chance that, despite the atrociously boring announcement ceremony, Facebook is benefiting from its deal with Skype. Meanwhile, TechCrunch surmises that Twitter is benefitting from its “feature-rich” web app.
The same cannot be said for LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD), however. While shares of the company are up a little in pre-market trading this morning, the site's traffic dropped from 33.9 million unique visitors in June to 32.5 million in July.
Incredibly, MySpace received a whopping 32.8 million unique visitors last month. Yes, that number is down from June. But considering the fact that I may very well be the only person that uses the site for music, it's amazing that more than 30 million people still visit MySpace.
