As Game Sales Tank, Mortal Kombat Perseveres With Nearly 3M Copies Sold
Warner Bros. just cashed in on its $50 million investment.
The company acquired the assets of Midway, the ill-fated creator and publisher of arcade games like Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam and NFL Blitz, back in 2009. Now, having sold nearly three million copies of its latest Mortal Kombat game (at $60 a pop), it is clear that Warner Bros. Interactive Studios made a wise decision.
MCV has the full scoop (via GameSpot):
“We are very pleased with the success of Mortal Kombat so far,” Martin Tremblay, President of WBIE, told MCV. “With the launch of Mortal Kombat, we have already paid for the acquisition of the Midway assets, and we are just beginning to leverage this acquisition with much more to come.”
