Mets May Have Hard Time Raising Funds

A tweet from Andrew Marchand, who is a writer for ESPN New York says that the New York Mets may have a hard time getting someone to buy a portion of the team.

Marchand tweeted, "I have spoken to a couple of knowledgeable baseball biz folks, no one can give a good reason to fork over $200M for minority ownership."

February 9 is going to be an important day in the proceedings of trying to sell a portion of the team, as that is the day the court could unseal the case Marchand said.

Last week the New York Mets announced that they were selling a portion of the team in an effort to raised funds to cope with the Bernie Madoff litigation against them.

Irving Picard, the trustee for the Madoff victims, is suing the Wilpons for a substantial amount of money. The Wilpons withdrew more money from their accounts with Madoff than they had invested, and Picard is seeking the excess damages.
