Expectations For Google's I/O Conference This Year

Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG)(NASDAQ: GOOGL)'s annual I/O Conference starts Thursday, where the company will be showcasing the new technology and products it has been working on.

Jeremy Rosenberg, head of digital at Allison+Partners, was on CNBC Wednesday to discuss what investors and developers can expect from the conference this year.

The Expectation

"I think that there's going to be new OSs coming out," Rosenberg said. "We have talked or we have heard a lot about Chrome update, we have heard a lot about Android update, we have heard a lot about Android wear and Internet of Things, which is still very much of an x-factor."

He continued, "Everybody is jumping on this thing. They have got Nest in their pocket, they have got the cars going. So there's definitely a lot of connected devices happening. It's really going to be exciting what they are going to do with all that stuff."

Virtual Reality

Rosenberg was asked if he is expecting any big announcement from Google related to virtual reality (VR). He replied, "I think on the VR side, it's a big crowd pleaser – it always is. People love the wow factor of it. People love seeing things that you just couldn't do a year before or two years before, things like Cardboard was a big debut. Obviously, there's going to be lot of those kinds of things. I think Google Glass goes back to that as well.

"Whether that ends up being something that is in the hands of a consumer anytime soon, that's always the big game. We really don't know when that's going to happen yet; we haven't turned the corner on VR yet.

"Augmented reality is still kind of in its early stages, even though it's been around for many years, [it] still hasn't really caught on in a big way," Rosenberg concluded.
