RatPac's Brett Ratner Talks Synergy Between Print And Film

Majorly pioneered by "2001: A Space Odyssey" and now seen as a trend by RatPac chairman and co-founder Brett Ratner, along with author Ben Mezrich, books based on in-development movies are now somewhat normal for Hollywood.

Mezrich recently discussed his new book “Seven Wonders" and how it fits into that model on CNBC, along with Ratner, who is making the book into a big-budget picture.

“I get a call from Ben just out of the blue and he says ‘Do you have an ideas for a book? I'm scrambling, kind of looking for what my next book is going to be.' And I happened to be with my producer Beau Flynn who had just pitched me a movie idea about the Seven Wonders of the World. There was just a general idea…kind of an 'Indiana Jones' meets 'Da Vinci Code' type thriller,” said Ratner.

“When I pitched this to Ben he completely went crazy and said ‘I want to write that.' And so it's kind of the opposite.”

Ratner went on to say that he sees a “trend” where ideas for books actually come from movies. Fox Studios (NASDAQ: FOX) will be making a "Seven Wonders" movie, which is based on a four-page outline by Mezrich.

“I've always been obsessed with accent cultures and the whole idea of doing a Da Vinci Code type of book, and this was an opportunity to get inside my geeky self and go into these ancient cultures,” said Mezrich.
