United Airlines' Starlink Rollout To Boost Regional Aircraft Wi-Fi Speed By 50x

United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) announced the installation of Starlink on its first regional aircraft, highlighting the technical benefits of the equipment.

The company disclosed it will begin installing Starlink on more than 40 regional aircraft each month from May through the end of 2025.

The typical installation process takes around eight hours, excluding any de-installation of existing equipment, testing or modifications to the aircraft, making it about 10 times quicker than installing traditional non-Starlink equipment.

United has also confirmed passengers on Starlink-equipped regional aircraft will experience Wi-Fi speeds of up to 250 megabits per second (Mbps), which is 50 times faster than the current speeds available on regional aircraft.

United’s Vice President of Digital Technology Grant Milstead said, “Starlink has been a terrific partner — our combined spirit of innovation and collaboration will enable us to hit our goal of more than 300 regional aircraft installations before the end of this year.”

Earlier this year, the airline announced its plan to equip its entire two-cabin regional fleet with Starlink by the end of the year.
