Democrats Want to Drop Weiner and Run

Share:

Nancy Pelosi has no intention of allowing embattled New York Representative Anthony Weiner to become the symbol of the party as we enter the 2012 election season. With that surely on the mind of Democrat strategists, colleagues and friends of Weiner have called for the Congressman to resign immediately.

Republicans have toed the line between calling for Weiner's resignation and savoring the prospect of tying Weiner to every single candidate seeking office as a Democrat in 2012, including President Obama. He could easily become a symbol of loose morality against the Republicans, who, despite their own scandalous behavior, are quick to play the morality card when it suits their needs.

For example, Senator David Vitter of Louisiana remains in office as a Republican despite an actual sex scandal involving actual sex — he was on the list as a prostitute's client for years. Newt Gingrich is (half-heartedly) running for President despite having more mistresses than full terms as Speaker of the House.

As the election primary season nears, Democrats would like to drop the anchor on Weiner, who they see as a distraction and a potential issue for the sex-crazed American media. It's a shame; Weiner is unloved in Washington for exactly the reasons he should stay on — he's liberal, he fights for his constituents, and he is on the right side of history.

Alas, he tweeted his tweetstick, and we all know that is a very big deal to the clowns that make up the American electorate. Both parties are glad you're focusing on Weiner's weiner and not the insane things that Rick Santorum says, or the near-default of the American government, or the endless wars costing us trillions of dollars, or tax cuts for wealthy people, or the end of social security for your grandmother, or the end of medicare for your grandfather.

Nope, focus on Weiner's weiner. See you in 2012, when the same issues are left unsolved. At least that penis will be tucked away from the limelight.
