This Game Outperformed Call Of Duty, Palworld On Steam: A Look At Sony's First Simultaneous PS5, PC Release

Helldivers 2, the highly anticipated co-op third-person shooter by Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE: SONY) Arrowhead Game Studios, launched today, Feb. 8, 2024, simultaneously on PC and PS5.

It marks the first time a PlayStation Studios' console exclusive is debuting on both platforms concurrently, outperforming Call of Duty and Palworld on Steam's Top Sellers chart.

In Helldivers 2, teams of up to four players engage in action-packed missions against alien and robot adversaries, emphasizing teamwork and strategic upgrades like deploying turrets. Noteworthy is its full cross-platform play support, enabling seamless gameplay between PC and PS5 users.

Palworld, renowned as "Pokémon with guns," had been dominating Steam's charts since its Jan. 19 release, selling 8 million copies in less than six days and becoming the fastest-selling paid game on Valve's platform.

However, Helldivers 2 has temporarily dethroned it, alongside other popular titles like Enshrouded and Granblue Fantasy: Relink.

Helldivers 2's rapid success is attributed to its availability across both PC and PS5, a departure from the traditional exclusivity of PlayStation titles.

While previous exclusives like God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man eventually made their way to PC, they initially remained exclusive to Sony's consoles for extended periods.

This simultaneous release strategy signifies a shift in Sony's approach to gaming platforms, potentially broadening the game's audience and impact.
