Breaking Barriers In Gaming: Microsoft's Latest Xbox Update Empowers Disabled Players

Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ: MSFT) next Xbox Update Preview Alpha will bring accessibility improvements, particularly for physically disabled players who require alternative control methods.

The update allows users to map keyboard keys to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 or the Xbox Adaptive Controller, the company announced in an Xbox Wire post.

This feature is beneficial for disabled players who find it challenging to use traditional keyboards.

However, there are some limitations as only single keys or functions can be mapped to controller buttons (for example, you could map Ctrl+Alt+W, but not Ctrl+Alt+W+E) and it depends on each game's keyboard functionality support, so some games will offer full support, partial support, or no support.

Moreover, using or mapping keyboard keys via Bluetooth on PC is not supported.

Nevertheless, this update expands the range of accessible hardware options for disabled players, enabling them to use devices that best suit their needs in both PC and Xbox games.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, a division of Sony Group Corp. (NYSE: SONY), recently began accepting pre-orders for its PlayStation Access Controller on July 21, with a suggested retail price of $89.99. This customizable PS5 controller aims to enhance the gaming experience for players with disabilities.
