Spotify Technology SA (NYSE:SPOT) has unveiled new statistics highlighting the explosive growth of anime music on its platform.

Spotify And Crunchyroll Collaboration

Spotify is capitalizing on this trend. The company recently partnered with anime streaming giant Crunchyroll to create custom-curated playlists for Spotify's dedicated Anime hub.

Crunchyroll, known for its extensive anime library, will also feature a dedicated shelf within this hub. This section will include Crunchyroll's newly launched podcast, “Crunchyroll Presents: The Anime Effect,” which covers the latest anime news and includes notable guest appearances from artists like rapper Denzel Curry and J-Pop star LiSA.

In 2021, Sony Group Corp. (NYSE:SONY) acquired Crunchyroll, which had been increasing its ties with the music sector, for over $1 billion.

"On Spotify, global streams of anime have surged over the past few years, and we hope the Anime hub will become an indispensable part of anime culture," said Kyota Onishi, Head of Music in Japan at Spotify.

Rising Popularity Of Japanese-Language Music

According to the Anime Industry Report from the Association of Japanese Animators (AJA), revenue from anime outside Japan grew by 111.1% year-over-year in 2022. Domestically, Japan's animation industry reached a market size of USD $20.57 billion in 2022, marking a 106.8% increase.

In line with this growth, Japanese-language music is gaining global traction. Luminate's 2023 Year End report revealed that Japanese-language music saw its share of the world's Top 10,000 streaming tracks rise from 1.3% in 2022 to 2.1% in 2023.
