Spotify Unveils AI Update That Lets Users Tailor Playlists: How To Use It

Spotify Technology SA (NYSE:SPOT) has launched a new beta tool for its Premium subscribers in the UK and Australia, allowing them to create AI-personalized playlists based on text descriptions.

According to a company’s blog post, users can access this feature on their mobile devices by navigating to the “Your Library” section and selecting the AI Playlist option.

By typing in prompts like “music for a cold, rainy day,” users receive a curated playlist of 30 songs tailored to that mood. They can further refine the playlist with prompts like “more sad music.”

The tool impressively matches songs to specific prompts, allowing users to reference genres, moods, artists, and more. It offers a quicker alternative to manually building playlists and serves as a handy way to discover new music that fits a particular aesthetic.

Unlike Spotify’s previous AI DJ feature, which bases playlists solely on listening history, this new tool provides users with more control over the final playlist.

However, there are some limitations. Non-music-related prompts won’t produce results, and offensive prompts are filtered out. Additionally, while the feature enhances user experience, it may also contribute to potential price increases for Spotify subscriptions.

Currently, Spotify Premium subscriptions are priced at $5.99 per month for students and $10.99 for individuals. Although the beta rollout is initially limited to the UK and Australia, Spotify plans to expand its availability in the future.

The company aims to continue improving the feature based on user feedback, promising further enhancements in the coming months.
