'Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse' Producers Unveil Reasons For Home Vs. Theater Version Changes

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the producers of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," offered insights into why the film's digital version had been modified.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Miller explained Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE: SONY) Sony Pictures Imageworks "still had some shots that they felt they could do better for the finished version."

"Certain crew members — people in the sound department or on the animation team — were like, ‘Oh, could we do this instead?’," the producer added.

Miller emphasized the goal of these changes was to offer audiences the best and most impressive version of the movie: "Let’s do the best possible version we can."

He continued: "Because it’s a multiverse movie, it’s like there’s a multiverse of the movie — that was really the reasoning behind it. It was trying to make the best possible version that everyone was going to be the proudest of."

In July, audiences were amazed to discover that "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" had multiple versions playing in theaters, adding to the film's multiverse theme.

The reception seemed less positive for certain changes in the film's home release, such as different lines from Miles Morales in key scenes, such as the climactic Spider-Men chase and his realization of being in the wrong dimension towards the end.

No Rush: Beyond The Spider-Verse Release Date Set By Quality

The release date for the sequel to Spider-Verse, titled "Beyond the Spider-Verse," remains uncertain as its producers assure that it will be released "when it is ready."

The original release date for "Beyond the Spider-Verse" was initially set for March 24 but was postponed indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes.

"What we’re trying to accomplish with the film is have it be the most satisfying conclusion to the story than it can be, and take it to places that you haven’t been before. And make you laugh and cry, and cheer and think," Miller said to Digital Spy.
