Snoop Dogg Helping Breakfast Fans: Could Trademark For Snoop Loopz Take Over Cereal — Or See Kellogg's Lawsuit

One of the most well-known rappers of all time has transformed himself into an entrepreneur in various industries. Here’s a look at what Snoop Dogg could be up to next.

What Happened: Rapper Snoop Dogg has branched out into the business world with the ownership of Death Row Records and several cannabis-themed product launches.

The latest product from Snoop Dogg could be a breakfast cereal and line of products according to a new trademark filing.

On Nov. 8, Snoop Dogg filed a trademark for Snoop Loopz. The filing was reported by trademark attorney Josh Gerben of Gerben Law.

Under the trademark filing, Snoop Loopz would be the brand name for products that could include breakfast cereal, cereal bars, cereal-based snack foods, preparations made from cereals and ready-to-eat cereals.

Why It’s Important: In August, several reports of a cereal called Snoop Loopz hitting stores circulated along with a website. A picture of the cereal was shared by rapper Master P, who co-founded Broadus Foods with Snoop Dogg.

The item is not currently available online on the company’s website.

Gerben pointed to the potential conflict of the name with Froot Loops, a cereal brand owned by the Kellogg Company (NYSE: K).

“It is very likely that Kellogg is going to want a word,” Gerben tweeted.

Kellogg’s launched Froot Loops in 1963 and it has been one of the company’s key cereals and most advertised products, with an advertising campaign featuring the mascot Toucan Sam.

Many generic food companies have cereal products with similar names. Milville, an Aldi brand, calls their similar cereal Fruit Rounds. Great Value, a Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT) brand, calls their cereal Fruit Spins. Coincidentally, Kellogg's and General Mills, Inc. (NYSE: GIS) make the cereals for the retailers. Snoop Dogg may have to reach out to Kellogg's and reach a deal or see a lawsuit come his way. 

Snoop Dogg has been active in filing trademarks for other potential food products.

Benzinga previously reported on Snoop Dogg filing for hot dogs under the Snoop Doggs brand. Snoop also filed a trademark for Snoop Scoops in 2011 indicating an ice cream brand.

Snoop Dogg has indicated he will be utilizing his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT for branding on several items, which could include an ice cream store.
