Felix Hernandez Wins AL Cy Young
Felix Hernandez, starting pitcher for the Seattle Mariners has won the Cy Young in a landslide, ushering in a new era in baseball.
Hernandez's win has finally brought sabermetrics to the forefront of analysis to baseball, as opposed to going by traditional statistics, like batting average, wins and strikeouts.
Hernandez finished the year at 13-12, but had a 2.27 ERA, had 232 strikeouts and led the league in innings. Hernandez had 21 of the 28 first-place votes, while Tampa Bay's David Price got four first-place votes and New York Yankee's pitcher CC Sabathia received the other three votes and finished third.
Sabermetrics has had some criticism from mainstream media, as a new era in ushered in.
It looks like sabermetrics has finally gotten and congratulations to Hernandez as a result.
