2011 Big-Cap Biotech Preview
Biotech investors looking for outsized returns in 2010 failed to find them in "Big Five" large-cap biotech stocks. Only Genzyme (NASDAQ: GENZ) and Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB) yielded double-digit returns over the past 12 months, the former boosted by Sanofi-Aventis' (NYSE: SNY) takeover efforts and the latter helped by an earnings boost stemming more from cost-cutting and drug price hikes than top-line sales growth.
Icahn Right, but Chesapeake Wrong
Carl Icahn revealed on Monday that he had increased his stake in Chesapeake(NYSE: CHK) to more than 5.8%. This caused a fast $2 rise in the shares of the stock, benefiting Icahn's stake alone to the tune of more than $70 million.
AIG Shares Up 84% in 2010
American International Group (NYSE: AIG) shares are hitting highs not seen since October 2008, as investors prepare for potential upside as the government begins selling off its 92% stake in the firm.
Bank of America Shares Defy WikiLeaks Reports
Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) shares opened higher on Wednesday despite a flurry of negative news reports.
