Getcha Popcorn Ready: Here's Everything You Need To Know About The Summer Box Office
Summer blockbuster season is upon us. Here’s a look at what moviegoers and investors can expect from this summer’s movie season.
Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) kicked off the season with a bang this month with the release of “Captain America: Civil War,” which has already grossed $295.9 million domestically.
According to JBL Advisors analyst Jeffrey Logsdon, “Civil War” will be the biggest blockbuster of the summer and will eventually reach $475 million in domestic box office sales.
Behind “Civil War,” JBL predicts that Disney’s “Finding Dory” ($350 million), Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA)’s “Jason Bourne” ($250 million), Disney’s “Alice Through The Looking Glass” ($225 million) and Comcast’s “Secret Life of Pets” ($225 million) will round out the top five box office smashes of the summer.
JBL predicts Disney will be the overall top-grossing studio this summer at $1.409 billion, up 29 percent over last summer. The firm also predicts that Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ: FOXA) and Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE: SNE) will more than double their 2015 summer gross, while Comcast and Time Warner Inc (NYSE: TWX)’s box office grosses will fall 46 percent and 29 percent, respectively.
JBL names Disney and Time Warner its top two studio stock picks, and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (NYSE: AMC) and Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CNK) its top two exhibitor picks.
